What is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis is an evidence-based intervention supported by decades of research demonstrating its effectiveness for individuals with and without special needs.

ABA Therapy

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy is an evidence-based treatment for Autism. Over the past 40 years, thousands of studies have documented the efficacy of ABA. For this reason, ABA is recognized as the most effective treatment for autism and is endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General and American Academy of Pediatrics. ABA therapy uses the principles of learning and motivation to teach basic skills such as eye contact, following directions, and imitating, as well as more complex skill sets such as conversational language, executive functioning, and understanding another person’s perspective. ABA also helps reduce problematic behaviors that interfere with learning and socializing.

ABA has been demonstrated to be highly effective in closing the gap between children diagnosed with Autism and their typically developing peers.

ABA is data driven. Data is collected daily, and progress in programs is evaluated on an ongoing basis to asses efficacy and inform next steps.

Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention

Young children who are at risk for Autism can sometimes be identified as early as 12 to 18 months of age. Most are diagnosed by the time they are 3 years old. Early diagnosis allows for early treatment. While children can always make progress, early intervention for children can greatly improve outcomes. Intensive ABA therapy means that your child receives the number of hours per week of therapy necessary to make progress, and each hour is filled with numerous learning opportunities.

Carefully Designed Teams

You can be sure that the professional working with your child is someone who is well-trained, and working under the direct supervision of an experienced Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). A BCBA is a licensed professional who has education and expertise in designing programs to promote skill acquisition and behavior change. The BCBA is responsible for the development of your child’s individualized program and supervision of the ABA therapists implementing the intervention.
