An evening with Rebecca Iannatuoni, Esq.

Center parents were afforded a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a round table discussion with attorney Rebecca Iannatuoni last night. Rebecca has the unique perspective of being both an attorney that works with families who have special needs children, and a special needs parent herself.

She provided thoughtful, and often humorous, insight in to effective parent participation in the PPT process and strategies to promote meaningful communication with a child’s school team. (more…)

$24,510.00 Raised for Autism Speaks!

When all was said and done, The Center Reinforcers raised $24,510.00 for Autism Speaks! Pretty amazing! We more than doubled our fund raising total from last year! Also, were the largest team the Westchester/Fairfield Walk, with 58 walkers officially signed up, and more than 100 walkers including all the children. 🙂 (more…)

Fantastic Workshop

If you haven’t had the opportunity to hear Peter Gerhardt speak, he is not to be missed. The workshop hosted by the Center, Bridges to Adulthood, received rave reviews by staff and parents alike. Our evening with Jill Mays

We had a fabulous time with Jill Mays last night! Jill presented her book and shared her expertise on motor development and sensory processing for typical children and children on the autism spectrum. She put particular emphasis on “the quiet senses”;  proprioception (activated by pressure to the joints), kinesthesia (activated by movement of the muscles), and the vestibular system (activated by rotation and movement, change in head position). We learned about enhancing sensorimotor development all the way from newborn reflexes through bike riding. (more…)
